How can I take a powerful plot item away from players without frustrating them? At the same time I CAN access a smb share by name on the same computer from the same Mac. Help me obi-wan-serverfault, you're my only hope. I don't know what in my (OS X) firewall settings was causing it, but if I restored the firewall setting it worked. The system resolver is a collection of functions in the standard C library of a UNIX or UNIX-like system (on Mac OS X, these functions are part of the netdb library).
