btw, before changing settings in smtp server lists, i forced shutdown the mail application, then start it again, and only after that try to retype pasw. I did what was suggested and changed to smtp.live.com , with the number 993. For troubleshooting, I've moved the SyncedRules.plist file from the MailData folder and Mail isn't creating a new file. Allow less secure apps: If you don't use 2-Step Verification, you might need to allow less secure apps to access your account.
